Wolverhampton Wanderers FC who is more recognized by the name Wolves is where it all began for Robbie Keane. As a youngster playing for Crumlin Utd in Dublin, Ireland he attracted a lot of attention from English clubs two of which were Liverpool F.C. and Wolves. Robbie had a massive decision to make as his boyhood club was Liverpool. In the end he decided to go to Wolves. His reasoning behind this decision is that Liverpool was a Premiership team with world famous players so he presumed It would be harder to get first team action there rather than at Wolves, were he felt it would be easier for him. He was not wrong as within two good years with the youth academy there he was promoted to the first team ranks. On the 9th of August 1997 he made his debut against Norwich City at the age of 17. In this very game he bagged two goals for himself to make his mark and state his intentions. In his second season he had cemented his place in the first team and justified his place by being top scorer for the team scoring 16 goals. This goal scoring form also appeared for The Republic of Ireland and with scoring for club and country comes attention. Robbie was sought after by many high profile clubs and with 3 years left on his Wolves contract he would not come at a cheap price. Wolves were reluctant to sell Keane at the time but eventually sold him in the opening weeks of the 1990-00 season to Coventry City who paid a 6 million pound transfer fee. At the time it was a record British Transfer Fee for a teenager. This was the end of Robbie’s time at Wolves as his aspirations took him to a new club in Coventry
